White River Canyon

Gouged out by centuries of snow melt, White River Canyon is a gash in the Douglas fur forest southeast of Mt. Hood.  White River then goes beneath US 26 and feeds a chain of lakes in the area.

Here is a stand of timber along the west side of the canyon.

Picking our way through broken snow fields.

Jerry and Gordy, guides extraordinaire, taking a break. Notice how dusty it is?

The rest of our group enjoying the sun.

Yours truly, hammin it up..

The local national guard was on maneuvers.  Here's their base camp in the White River Canyon Snow Park parking lot..

They had mounted a pretty large antennae and seemed to have lots of communication equipment.

One last shot of Mt. Hood before we load up in the van..
