 Journal entry Saturday July 8th, 2006.  Here's a look back down as Beth approaches.  Vaqas is near the center of the picture.  He's in green and hard to see though.  

And another look at Mount Rainier across the snow field.

 

The final approach to the saddle:

 

The very top of the snow field.  Here you can see the edge of the deep snow field dwarfs us as we make our way along the side of the ridge.

Looking back the way we came from the top edge of that snow field:  

I crossed over the saddle of the ridge at this point and got my first picture looking South at Mount Adams.

To the SW, Mount St. Helens vents off some gas as we watch from our ridge.  We are almost directly in the former blast zone of Mt. St. Helens, looking right into the broken side of the crater.
