Royal Basin, Olympic National Forest

Page 1

Journal entry September 2000.

Our trip begins at a car camp in the Dosewallips area just outside of the Olympic National Park.  We're still nicely washed and fresh and happy to be on vacation!

Even the next day we're pretty clean looking.  You can see the Olympics peeking up in the background.

Below we break on a side hill heading up into the mountains.

In the center of this picture, just about an inch to the right, that black spot is a bear.  This is right across the little valley from the previous picture.  The bear never noticed us but was heading in the same direction as we were.

Enjoying butane steaks and room temperature water at dinner time!

Our campsite's crummy view at dusk.

The next morning you can see the lake was crystal clear.

The day is warming by the time we get packed up to take off.  What little humidity had accumulated over the night begins to lift in a ghostly mist.

Sunrise!
