Molalla River
Journal entry February 26 2004, 9:12 AM, Dickey Prairie Oregon. It's a beautiful day in Oregon and we head out into the foothills of the Cascade mountains in search of a moving water adventure. We put in at Dickey Prairie, a place where serious white water boaters normally take out. But we're not looking for an over the top adventure in class III rapids. Just some class I and II action on a beautiful day in Winter... Yep, it's still Winter, and just the previous weekend I was up on Mt. Hood cross country skiing.
Above Travis and I launch off the side of the road. It's a steep launch. Below you can see the first rapid, a nice little warm up for the trip. We weren't even on the water a minute and we dumped over on a submerged rock. That sort of shaped us up for the rest of the trip and we stayed upright.
Tying off the boat while we pass down gear..
The rocks are a bit slippery yeah.
Soaking wet after a dumping and a couple of rapids I stand victorious. I'm wearing neoprene pants under the nylon pants there and I'm layered up pretty good under my dry top. But the sun and a thermos of hot tea still helps keep a person cheery.
Travis, looking noble.
Just before we mount back up.
At the highway bridge just before the end of the trip... There's a park here along the river, I forgot the name.
Really appreciating that ice cold soda?.
