This is a special report
from Curt’s Corner, a periodical movie review from Curt Burbach of Clackamas,
Oregon.
Ray:

This film is a tribute
to the life and times of Mr. Ray Charles. It was 2 ½ hours long, yet when it
ended I wanted to see more. Jamie Foxx, who plays Ray, gave one of the best
acting performances I have ever seen. Not only will he be nominated for the
Oscar, but he’ll probably win. The film was also be nominated for best picture
I’m sure, and the sound track will no doubt make a lot of money since it’s a
nice little collection of his greatest hits. I can’t say enough about Jamie
Foxx’s portrayal of Ray Charles. He had to act like a blind man, a singer, a
piano player, talk and move like him, and act like a junkie. Apparently Ray
Charles himself helped pick out Jamie Foxx to portray him, which is a lot like
Loretta Lynn picking out Sissy Spacek for The Coal Miners Daughter (and we know
where that lead to). Jamie Foxx also has some music talents, as he received some
technical piano instruction during his college years, and this lent itself very
well to the filming. Anyway, if you listened to Ray Charles music at all in your
life you’ll love this movie. If not, you’ll still like it because of the
personal struggles he overcomes during his life. I definitely give this film four-bones
(dinosaur sized) out of four.
