Curt’s Corner is
a periodical movie review written by Curt Burbach of Clackamas
Collateral:
Since this film was written, directed and produced by Oliver Stone, I figured it had to be pretty decent, and I was right, because it was a very decent movie. Actors Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx both did a good job, as I’m sure this film will make a bunch of money and add to their list of good career works. Tom Cruise plays a villain (which, of course is unusual) yet he still comes across like the kind of guy a viewer can root for. Hence, I smell a sequel here, and I’m not going to tell you why. I recommend this one and give it 2 ½ bones out of four.
Alien vs. Predator:
Now,
I REALLY liked the original Alien and Predator movies. But, when I saw this film
first advertised I couldn't help but think of the old King Kong vs. Godzilla
films of the 60's. But, I must say, this movie was pretty decent. Now if they
could just do away with the stupid humans and let the beasts do their thing! It
was really cool watching the predator (my favorite guy) do his stuff. I give it 2
½ bones, and yes there will probably be another sequel.
Open Water:
This film reminds me very much of The Blair Witch Project because it was independently produced with a low budget, and how it was filmed and written. It’s about a couple that went on a Scuba diving trip and was accidentally left behind, floating in the sea, as the boat went home. When I first left the theater, I thought the film was no big deal. But I continue to find myself pondering it and discussing it afterwards. Everything that happens, and was said, was extremely realistic and believable. Apparently this film has made some very good money for its makers. I give it 2 ½ bones.

The Lost Boys:
This film came out in 1987 and helped launch the career of Kiefer Sutherland. It had all the typical aspects of the 1980’s; the clothing, the music, the action, the humor, the babes, the vampires. Therefore, I suppose it may have been a better film back then, but in today’s world I can only give it two bones.
Starsky and Hutch:
This movie sucked. It had all the necessary ingredients to be good; the actors, the characters, the setting; the theme; the goofiness. Yet, the final product just didn’t come out right. Don’t expect to laugh very much, as one should. I give this dud 1 ½ bones.
