Fantastic Four
Of all the comic book movies that we’ve seen these past few years, this is one of the better ones. It was exciting, sexy, funny and something of a pleasure to watch. But it was still a comic book story. I used to watch Fantastic Four cartoons when I was a kid. I give it 2 ½ bones out of four for being above average.
The Island:
Cool movie! It reminded me a lot of Logan’s Run (1976) because of its futuristic theme. Except this one is more interesting. The toys and gadgets are exciting and I really enjoyed the chase scene. It also sported a good collection of actors. I give it three bones for being a good summer movie.

House of Sand and Fog:
This film came out in 2003 and was nominated for three Academy Awards, including best actor (Ben Kingsley) and best supporting actress. It is a powerful and tragic story that is very well written. I give it three bones for being a good movie.
Kinsey:
This is the true story of Alfred Kinsey who was a biologist/zoologist that embarked on a study of human sexual behavior during the 1940’s, before this topic was ever openly discussed in any academic or public forum. It was really quite an interesting story as it received three golden globe nominations. I give it three bones for being a good film.
Birth:
This film made headlines due to a couple of controversial scenes involving Nicole Kidman and a young boy. I thought the storey was pretty good, but the ending left me flat. Somehow, they should have written a change to the ending. Overall, it was just average and I give it two bones.
Trauma:
This movie was really lame. Don’t even waste your time. The basic premise sounds good, but it turned out horrible. I give it one bone, and that’s just for the filming and Colon Firth’s acting.
Tears of the Sun:
This came out a few years ago and was made by Bruce Willis’ own movie production company – Cheyenne. Willis stars as Navy lieutenant in charge of a SEAL team as they infiltrate Nigeria. This film plays on the frustration of Americans we stand by and watch ethnic cleansing occur in so many African nations. I give it 2 ½ bones for being above average, mostly due to its social relevance. Otherwise, it would just be average. Also, the music in this film was surprisingly very, very good. Try to take note.
The Horse Whisperer:
There have been people that have told me that this film is not necessarily a “chick flick”. I’m here to differ with them. For sure, 100%, this film is a “chick flick”. But that’s OK, because it’s actually somewhat interesting. There were several very good actors utilized and they did a good job. I give it 2 ½ bones for being above average.
Hide and Seek:
This filmed included several very good actors. It also creep’d me out a little bit a couple times. But overall, it was just average. I guess it just wasn’t unique enough. I give two bones.
