Curt’s
Corner is a periodic movie review written by Curt Burbach of
Hugh Jackman portrays a dark, shady character that hunts werewolves, vampires and other assorted evils creatures. Overall, I’d say this film was a bit cheesy. But since it is the first action-adventure movie of the summer, it seems to be doing fairly good at the box office for the first weekend. I didn’t find it to be all the entertaining, and don’t care to ever see it again, unlike a good movie. I give it two bones out of four.
Of course this film has a blend of love stories for the girls, and battle action for the guys, but it didn’t seem to water down the story at all. Some may say that it was too violent and displayed too much death. Hello? This was the war to be remembered for all times. I thought it was reminiscent of the epic films of the 60’s, and even had an epic icon in it- Peter O’Toole. I’d say the cinematography will no doubt be nominated for an Oscar, and the set direction and costume design were top-notch, depicting some very interest historical scenes. The script was adapted from Homer’s “The Iliad”, and as I found it very entertaining, I couldn’t attest to its accuracy. I also thought that Brad Pitt did a good job. He obviously spent some time honing his hand-to-hand combat skills, because he fought with a martial art flair that was most impressive. I’d say he did just as well, if not better than Russell Crowe did in “The Gladiator”, which won him the best actor Oscar. Peter O’Toole and the supporting cast members also did a very fine job. Overall, I liked it very much and am happy to give it 3 ½ bones.
The storms were pretty cool to watch, which is why I went to see this film in the first place. I didn’t expect anything more than that, and I’m glad I didn’t. Two bones.

This film came out last year and was nominated for three Oscars, one of which was best original screenplay, which is why I rented it in the first place. Yes, the story was emotionally moving and would make a great book. I give it three bones.
Cute, with a few chuckles. Otherwise, nothing special. Two bones.
This film won the Oscar for best picture in 1962, and is the most memorable performance in the career of Gregory Peck, who also won the Oscar for best actor. It is one of the all time movie classics of the film making industry, which was adapted from an extremely successful book, of the same name. I’m glad I saw it. I don’t really care to rate an old classic like this, because it isn’t fair to compare it to today’s standards. I would give it three bones though, which is pretty good considering how old it is. I’m sure compared to the competition back in ’62, I would have given it four bones.
Most people either hate this film, or get a kick out of it. Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has a bizarre sense of humor, and that’s important to understand before you sit down to watch it. I like to think of this movie as a kung-fu satire. It made me chuckle several times, and I wouldn’t mind watching the sequel. I give it 2 ½ bones.
