Secret Window:

I liked this movie. It reminded me a lot of the old Rod Serling, Night Gallery show, which was very much like; The Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone without the sci-fi. That is, it employs the demented mindset that Serling was so famous for. The script comes from a Stephen King story. So, that should give you even more of an idea of what it's like. This film had to have been great fun for lead actor Johnny Depp (who is gaining popularity with every film). He was in nearly every scene throughout the movie. Depp did a very good job although I don't think it will earn him a nomination for any awards (but it may). I recommend seeing this film before you hear about the plot, thereby ruining it for you. I give it three bones out of four.

The Alamo :

This was a fresh look at a historic situation. I really enjoyed the replica of the mission and the wardrobe that they had the actors wear. It seemed so much more authentic. I also liked Billy Bob Thornton’s portrayal of Davy Crocket. I thought it was a very good job. You could tell that the producer and director were trying to make this film as historically close as possible, yet they still exercised some artistic creativeness. I give it three bones.

The Lady Killers:

This was a cute and funny movie, yet not necessarily reserved just for women. Guys will like it too. I haven’t seen a script like this since the 60’s. And, Tom Hanks did an admirable job. It’s not going to win any awards, but it will make you chuckle a few times. 2 ½ bones.

The Missing:

Since Ron Howard had directed this film, I was hoping that it might be pretty good. But, it was just average. There’s only so much a director can do with a story line, a time frame and setting such as this movie has, and it looks like Howard did all he could with it. But, it wasn’t enough to grade it any higher than just above average. I give it 2 ½ bones for effort.

The Hours:

Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for her portrayal of the writer Virginia Wolfe in this film (which came out in 2002). I believe Meryl Streep was also nominated for best actress for her performance in this film. If she wasn't, she should have been. I think she deserved to win more than Nicole Kidman.  Ed Harris also gave a usual wonderful acting performance. I swear, he will win an Oscar someday. He is a very good actor. Anyway, the movie is basically about the hours before, during and after death. I found the story to be a little intriguing, but not overly compelling. See it for the acting and don't expect a great story, just an average one. I give it two bones.

One Hour Photo:

This was another quality dramatic part for Robin Williams. The film wasn’t a huge success at the box office, but I liked it. It was moving and can make the viewer think about a lot of things. 2 ½ bones.
