Curt’s Corner is a periodic movie review written by Curt Burbach of Clackamas, Oregon

A History of Violence:

I very much enjoyed the acing in this film, but there was something wrong with the script. A few scenes just didn't belong in the story. Overall, I'd say it was just average and I give it two bones out of four.

Just Like Heaven:

Pretty much just another feel good chick flick with nothing truly outstanding. I say two bones for being average and cute.

In Her Shoes:

I figured this would be just another average chick flick, but I was wrong. It was an above average chick flick. Shirley MaClane always does a great job of acting too. This film was at least a small step up from being the usual happy-go-lucky, fantasy, Saturday matinee. I give 2 ½ bones for being above average.

Good Night and Good Luck:

This was an interesting history lesson that reenacts the sparring between radio and television news icon Edward R. Morrow and communist hunter Senator Joseph McCarthy during the mid 1950’s. Both the acting and the filming were very intriguing. But the film wasn’t overly compelling. Hence, I award it 2 ½ bones for being above average.

Prime:

I was disappointed in this one. First of all, the advertisement trailers depicted this as a dramatic comedy. But this was not the case. It was about 85% drama, and 15% comedy, with a serious script a sour ending. And, the trailer ads have already shown you just about all the humorous scenes. On a positive note, the acting was pretty good. So, I give the film two bones for just being average.

Jarhead:

I thought this film had the ingredients for becoming a memorable war/military film. But it fell flat, because it wasn’t a very compelling movie. I’m sure there will be several veterans who will like it because it will show some of what they went through. But the writing missed the mark. I give it two bones for being average.

Dreamer: Inspired By a True Story:

The acting in this film was pretty decent. And, since it was based on a true story, it was somewhat compelling. But, I wouldn’t call it an award winner though. I give it 2 ½ bones for being above average.
