Curt’s Corner is a periodic movie review written by Curt Burbach of Clackamas, Oregon

I have recently seen the following movie in the theater:

Munich:

I was really hoping that this Steven Spielberg film was going to be superbly intense and interesting. It was in fact, interesting, but not as intense as I had hoped. It was a well written story, and the filming, acting and editing were top-notch. It’s also important to note that this story was only based on real events, and that several aspects were actually “fictional-ized.” I give it three bones out of four for being good.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe:

This film had some wonderful set direction, costume and make-up design, for which they will probably receive some sort of recognition. The story was actually written years ago as a parallel to a story in the bible. Overall, the movie was only slightly compelling, and therefore, I award 2 ½ bones for being above average.

Match Point:

This was written and directed by Woody Allen. And, I don’t usually enjoy much of his work, but I must say that this film was written very well. Plus, the acting was superb. Lead actress Scarlett Johansson was great and is starting to receive recognition for her performance. I found the story very interesting - a mature theme involving lying, deceit and adultery. Although morally corrupt, it was very entertaining and carries a couple of important life lessons. I give it three bones for being good.

Fun With Dick and Jane:

This was pretty much just another run-of-the-mill comedy in which Jim Carrey carries the entire movie. It made me laugh several times and I give it two bones for being average.

The Forty-Year Old Virgin:

Funny, very funny! It is loaded with crude humor. No awards or special recognition for this one. But, it should make you laugh quite a bit. Young kids may not relate to it, and senior citizens may be repulsed by it. But, I give it three bones just for being hilarious.

Serenity:

OK, back in 2002 a new Sci-Fi series ran for only about 14 weeks. It was called Firefly and consisted of a mercenary crew of characters who operate a spaceship in the outlying areas of a far away solar system. And now in 2005, the producers made a full length feature film on the same topic. Firefly is the class of spacecraft that they sail, whereas Serenity is the name of the vessel. The failed series has become extremely popular over the last three years, making it a strikingly similar to the old Star Trek. It’s no coincidence that Star Trek fans also find themselves lured to Firefly/Serenity. If you enjoy this film, you can also obtain the series on DVD. The series is extremely fun. I watched it first, but it’s not totally necessary. It’s no secret that I am a big fan, so I give the film three bones. Even if you aren’t much of a sci-fi viewer you may still be entertained by this one.
