Open Range:
It's been quite a while since Kevin Kostner has made a good movie. Well, he did with this one. Open Range is not a blockbuster, but it's a pretty good western. In fact, I think it better than Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven," and that won best picture in 1992 (?). It seems that each decade, the movie makers get better at making the shootouts look more and more realistic. It has occurred with this one as well. Yet, another step toward realism. I don't think this film is worthy of any awards, but it's good. I give it three out of four bones.
Matchstick Men:
Nicholas Cage did a very good job acting in this one. In fact, he'll probably get nominated for best actor. But this movie left me with a flat empty feeling in my stomach. Some would say there is a strong moral message, but if you look deeper, there's also a strong immoral message. I give it two bones.
Finding Nemo:
I had high hopes for this one since it has become the highest revenue grossing animated film of all time. The computer animation looked great. But, I have just one word to describe it: cute. Wait for the tape. Two 1/2 bones.
The Rundown:
The Rock takes another huge step in following Arnold Schwarzenegger's footsteps in becoming the next big action hero. He's even a better actor. This movie will not win any awards, but it will definitely do well at the box office because it was fun. It's advertised as an action/comedy, which is exactly what it is. Two 1/2 bones.
Underworld:
I normally don't like movies like
this (the vampire theme), but I must admit, the plot was fairly interesting.
There will probably be a sequel if it makes any money at all. I
give it 2 ½ bones.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico:
Overall, nothing special. A typical action film with all the usual gunfire and explosions. This one is a little more interesting then its predecessor "El Dorado." Two bones.
