Rainier National Park
Base Camp
Journal entry September 2010, Rainier National Park, Washington State USA.
It was not the best weather for this fall backpacking trip. Rain would be the biggest difficulty for overland travel, wetting us down almost every day and soaking all of our gear. We opted to set down a base camp and take day trips from there. This provided the luxury of having an awning over our heads in the evening and allowed us plenty of options for drying and rehabilitating our gear at the end of the day's hike. Below is a picture of our main communal area where we made meals and hung out by the fire.
Whipping up a big breakfast on the double stoves. We ate quite well:
The breakfast table, notice the syrup stands in a pan of warm water? That's living:
The firewood store under it's protective cover:
We were a bit worried on the first day that our tent might sit in a pool of water so we moved it under this tarp. Needless to say it was very dry after that:
From this humble camp we set out to climb some local peaks. Head back over to the Rainier National Park Main Page to see some climbs.
