Pod Leaders Trip
Journal entry; April 29, 2006. Harrisburg Oregon. A long gravel bar has formed over the winter making launching power boats from the Harrisburg boat ramp very difficult. It works well for launching kayaks and canoes however. The boat ramp is the center of the picture, you can see the new gravel bar stretching away to the left. This picture is taken from just down stream as our party starts to launch.
Looking downstream a few minutes later the water forms a smooth pool just before it makes a slow dog-leg turn. I'm paddling a Wenonah Encounter, an expedition solo canoe. This allows me to carry my own camping gear and some of the group equipment. What would a camping trip be without the wine, water, chairs, charcoal briquettes, an awning and assorted other items?
A typical shot of the Willamette on a beautiful day in May.
Below, I raft up with the Smith's tandem as we drift by some snags. The river runs pretty clear with the exception of a few downed trees left during the winter's flood that tend to clump up here and there. Art and McKenzie are paddling by.
Hi Russ! This is "the other Russ". Every bit as charming as he looks.
Travis in his natural habitat. Travis and the rest of the Willamette Riverkeepers worked hard to put this trip together. This is a great bunch of people.
Rounding an S turn full of snags. You can see we have quite the assortment of water craft.
