Flathead
Lake
Journal entry July 19 2005, 1:05 PM, Flathead Lake Montana. This lake is vast. We only scratched the surface. We camped at Finley Point park and island hopped across into the Big Arm section of the lake. Awesome granite outcroppings and idyllic islands dotted the lake. I only documented a day trip here but there is a water trail open on the lake that could take days to complete. Below Travis is reading the water trail flier that a parks service person gave us. You can see back across to Finley Point where we had been just an hour or 2 before.

This is a narrow stretch of the lake.
It was cooler that day, rains swept in from the west but only sprinkled on us. Since we essentially car camped our boat was empty but we kept the cover on to cut down the winds effects. Below I look over the water trail flier.
I was quite fascinated with the Flathead Lake gravel, here's a close up.
An osprey nest in a dead tree along the Big Arm bank.
Below you see a pretty good shot of the chain of islands we used to cross the lake. There are some beautiful homes on these islands and along the shores.
A picture of some of the ancient granite poking up through the water. The lake is rimmed in rock for the most part. The only "beach" we found was the colored rock island we had lunch on.
Here is a modest home along the shore. This house had it's own dock as well as a view of the lake and Mission Mountains.
Below a view of the island we stopped for lunch on as we head back toward Finley Point..
This is too good, go back to home
